| | Looking back today on the brochures for BMW's big eight-cylinder models, it is clear that this was the beginning of a new era. Capri and the Côte d'Azur were enticing people into the sun. Kidney-shaped coffee tables, paper lamps and petticoats conjure up images of the economic miracle, which was still in it's early days. And of course, customers wanted to experience it in motorized form as well - in the BMW 502, for example, the "Baroque Angel" that was the typical symbol of those days. And even if this flagship of the blue and white insignia was reserved for a very special clientele, it reflected the pride of a new generation - people were somebody again. And they wanted to demonstrate the fact to the outside world. |
