Weighing in at only just over 800 kilos with an 80 bhp engine, the BMW 328 already provided an unparalleled power-to-weight ratio in the production version. Consequently it was one of the fastest German automobiles around. The special versions driven in the world's toughest race - the Italian Mille Miglia - started on the grid with ultra lightweight aerodynamic bodies. Fritz Huschke von Hanstein and Walter Baumer achieved an impressive overall victory in the Touring Coupe, while the other BMW drivers additionally won the team trophy in the open-top areodynamic roadsters.
